A leading technology innovation consultancy company is looking for a highly skilled consultant in optical physics and engineering to lead demanding technical projects and build new business in product and technology development. With a PhD in physics or engineering, you will have a track record in optics project management and a sound knowledge of a broad range of relevant skills. Business development experience is preferred.

You will be contributing to technically demanding development projects in a technical and/or project management capacity; take the lead in client communications and management; and take responsibility for best-in-class project delivery. You will identify and pursue opportunities to develop new business through individual and team creativity and building relationships with international clients.

Head of Business Development to lead the business development activities in a leading innovation company’s surgical and intervention products business. With proven success in developing business in the surgical and interventional products with substantial contract values; you will have a good degree in physical sciences or engineering. Significant commercial experience in medical product development, sales experience with a design and development services company or sales experience with a medical products company is required.

Your responsibility will be to support the strategy for the business and execute significant personal sales, marketing and client management activities that result in continued growth of this major sector of our business. This will include all aspects of business development for their surgical and interventional products business.

You will:
 Identify companies that are potential clients
 Develop strong commercial relationships with senior executives in potential client companies
 Personally close substantial sales
 Work with and guide our technical teams in the UK and the USA to maximise sales conversion
 Feed back market information to the technical teams to support product and service development
 Interact with teams across the broad technical base of the company which includes: mechanical engineering, product design, electronics, software, regulatory affairs, manufacturing technology, process automation and life sciences.

You will also use your strong commercial and technical skills to make a significant contribution to the overall direction of development projects, often working on more than one concurrently. Whilst this position is based in the UK, there will be some international travel required (typically up to 25% of time).

Head of Contracts to set and maintain a commercial framework for the business of the group such that it represents good value to clients while providing a good return and an acceptable level of legal and commercial risk to the group. You will have knowledge of the commercial drivers and imperatives for professional service companies in the engineering design and development field; ability to understand the basics of the technologies that are being used by the group; and knowledge of English contract law.

A working knowledge of the major differences between English contract law and the laws of US States and the major European countries is required as is an ability to draft and negotiate complex legal agreements with both senior client technical, commercial and legal personnel. You must also be able to liaise with senior legal and intellectual property advisors and have a working knowledge of the laws relating to the protection of intellectual property and its licensing around the world, with particular reference to the UK, the remainder of Europe and the USA.

To do this you will be a focus for group knowledge and provide advice to company personnel on contractual, intellectual property and licensing issues that address the varied commercial needs of our business.
You will manage the group’s Business Office in the UK delegating activities to office staff as necessary.
